Spatial ecology of ectomycorrhizas and their external mycelium

David Genney and Brian Pickles

Summary

We are using molecular and morphological techniques to study spatial and temporal patterns in a population of pinewood ectomycorrhizas. Our study site is a 400 m2 area of Pinus sylvestris plantation located within Culbin Forest, NE Scotland.

Brian is assessing the larger scale variation in ectomycorrhizal root-tips across the site

David is measuring the fine scale (2cm) distribution of ectomycorrhizal root-tips and their associatied extramatrical mycelium.
